Washington

Washington, commonly known as the “Original Washington” or “Little Washington” is located on the Northern Bank of the Pamlico and Tar Rivers. It was the first City in the nation that was named in honor of George Washington. Heritage can’t be shaken here, where American flags hang on every block and passerbys wave hello to you whether you know them or not. Washington is known for its’ rich history, natural beauty, and Southern charm. The lovely downtown historic district boasts shops, restaurants, stately Victorian era homes, and a truly scenic waterfront.

Bath

Known as the “First Town and the First Port, picturesque Historic Bath was founded in 1705 and still maintains it’s quaint and historic legacy. Barely over a square mile in area, hugging the waterfront of the Pamlico River and Bath Creek in virtually every direction, it is stocked with historic residences and buildings that pay tribute to a rich history filled with lure of Blackbeard pirates, Indian wars, and political rivalries. Coming across the Bath Creek bridge you are instantly thrown into another slower paced time. It is easy to see why so many people dream of living here. The entire Bath address has less than 3,000 residents.

Belhaven

Belhaven is nestled in the midst of the Pantego Creek and the Pungo River. This thriving town has long been a popular stopping point for boaters on the Intracoastal Waterway. Once known as Jacks Neck, then Bellport, finally the town became know as Belhaven which means “Beautiful Harbor”. Downtown Belhaven is known for it’s fine old homes, some of which were built in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The town is experiencing a resurgence of new businesses and activities.

Aurora

Aurora is located on the South shores of the Pamlico River and Goose Creek (ICW) and was originally called Betty town. It was founded on the location of a Pomouik Indian village. This quiet town attracts fossil fanatics from around the world throughout the year to visit the Aurora Fossil Museum and participate in the annual Fossil Festival at the end of May. The North Carolina ferry system runs across the Pamlico River from Aurora to Bayview. One of Aurora’s newer communities, Windsong, a private wooded waterfront community with estate size homesites is located on Campbell Creek. This deep water creek offers a minimum depth of six feet with unobstructed access to the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. An excellent location for sailing, fishing, water skiing, kayaking, rowing or canoeing.

Blounts Creek

Blounts Creek is a small unicorporated rural community which encompasses Blounts Bay and Blounts Creek which are both tributaries of the Pamlico River. Blounts Creek is a popular fishing creek in eastern North Carolina that provides a unique habitat for many fish—including red drum, speckled trout, and river herring.

Chocowinity
